Flat Roofing Systems - Pros and Cons

The Flat roofing describes a completely leveled roof surface and while using this type it is very important to include the slight angle that allows the drainage of water. After deciding for the flat roof system you have to take a few considerations like the performance of the material, structure complexity, and aesthetic appeal. There are three main types of roofing system including Membrane or single - Ply, Built-up roofing and Modified bitumen.

The Roofer Membrane single Ply roofing is relatively simple and inexpensive. It is very lightweight and the leaks are very rare and there would be no surface damage occurs while experiencing the EPDM roofing membrane. When we talk about the cons of this type of membrane- it can be easily broken after the falling branches, foot traffic, and storm damage.

A second most popular type of flat roofing is known as Built-up roofing that can offer special protection, require low maintenance and high resistance to the normal foot traffic. The cons of built-up roofing include the slow installation process, difficulty in finding the leaks and the built-up roofing is not flexible in the cold temperature that makes it susceptible to damage.

Modified Bitumen roofing is flexible and the material comes in a rolled sheet that is three feet wide and 3o+ feet long. This type of roofing material is easy to install and offers better elasticity and flexibility at low temperatures. It is one of the most durable types because of low maintenance and durability. it can be easily installed by the homeowners and recycled the same as asphalt shingle. it will provide better durability and less installation error. Disadvantage - Most of the Application techniques demand services of a skilled Roofer and safety consideration and the process of overlapping should be correctly maintained to get rid of leakage Problems.
